Sea Floor Spreading > Step Two

To look more closely at sea floor spreading we'll examine a map of the age of the ocean floor.

In the QUEST window, click on the Menu button and select World from the Region pull down menu. Next and select the Age of the Sea Floor from the Base Map pull down menu.

When you are finished click OK and then Get Map. Your map will appear in the QUEST window in a few moments.

Answer the following questions and turn them in to your instructor.

1. Where are the youngest rocks in the Atlantic Ocean?

2. Where are the oldest Atlantic rocks?

3. Consider Wegener's reconstruction of Pangea. Do the patterns of ocean floor age and the geography of the Mid Atlantic ridge support the idea of Pangea? Explain.
