Earthquake Depth > Step Two

Take a few minutes to examine the maps you just created with QUEST. Now answer the following questions about earthquake depth and turn your answers in to your instructor.

1. Where do you observe deep earthquakes (>300km)?

2. Do these locations have anything in common?Explain.

3. Are there places that are characterized only by shallow earthquakes and no deep earthquakes? Where are they?

4. "Mouse over" your series of maps, going from shallowest to deepest. Do you notice any change in the position of the earthquakes that occur at different depths? Explain.
